I am a Black British with bilateral sensorineural moderate/severe hearing loss. I wear two ‘behind-the-ears’ hearing aids and I grew up orally.
I have a BA Music and Arts Management degree to which I obtained a 2:1.
I am also a mum, a single mum, and I have written about my mental health, numerous times, for The Limping Chicken, the world’s most popular Deaf blog.
I used to play the piano and I got up to ABRSM Grade 7. I have performed in Germany, Italy and throughout the UK. I sadly no longer practice.
I have played the bass in steelpan and performed several times, on the float, at Leeds West Indian Carnival. I also played the bass for Carnival Messiah created by Geraldine Connor at Harewood House.
Singing lessons have been taken in Germany and London with the Global Music Foundation, GMF, and, I can proudly say I can hold a tune or two.
I am always studying to better myself, be it courses or self-help books, and, I am currently undertaking Signature BSL Level Three lessons in Leeds. I passed BSL Level Two in London so some of my signs are flitting between two accents!
